One of the largest kid shows of the 1980’s, G.I. Joe has a long history that includes a comic book, cartoon shows and a huge assortment of action figures, along with other toys. There were a great many expectations placed on this movie when it was first announced. In the past, other G.I. Joe movies have been cartoons, like the television series, either traditionally animated or CGI (computer graphics). The 2009 movie showcases live actors and a whole lot of CGI special effects to take audiences to the next level with the famous entertainment property.
With its long loved cast of characters such as General Hawk, Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Heavy Duty and Baroness, the Joes and Cobras are now represented by actual actors and actresses for the first time. This film has its share of critics because with any kind of timeless classic being translated from cartoon to the big screen, there are going to be inconsistencies and The Rise of Cobra certainly has its share of those which are sure to irritate long time fans. Despite this, the movie is intended to be an action packed romp across the world featuring the Joes in special super suits that let them have powers similar to what superheroes enjoy. It’s a good time for those looking for an action flick and a touch of fun for fans of the old series who are willing to overlook the inevitable mishandlings of their favorite characters. All in all, this movie delivers a good time, but it won’t be the end all, be all of G.I. Joe fandom.
